Ladies and Gentlemen – Good afternoon.
J’aimerais commencer en saluant la présence de :
- Mme Carloyn Davis, Directrice générale de Catholic Crosscultural Services qui nous a accueillis aujourd’hui, et

Pour La Passerelle-I.D.É., c’est un plaisir et un honneur d’annoncer l’ouverture de ce point de services d’établissement pour les immigrants francophones de la région de Scarborough.
It is a pleasure and an honour for La Passerelle-I.D.É. to announce the opening of our new French-language settlement services location for Francophone immigrants in the Scarborough region.
Toronto est une destination de choix pour les immigrants francophones qui s’établissent en Ontario. À l’image de la ville dans son ensemble, le Toronto francophone compte sur 48 % de résidents nés à l’extérieur du Canada et provenant des cinq continents.
Toronto is a destination of choice for Francophone immigrants who settle in Ontario. Just like the city as a whole, Francophone Toronto is composed of almost 50 % residents born abroad who come from all 5 continents.
Or, pendant trop longtemps, les immigrants francophones qui vivent à Scarborough ont dû faire de longs déplacements pour avoir accès à des services en français. Ou bien, ils ont dû se contenter de se prévaloir des services en anglais disponibles dans leur région de résidence.
For a long time, Francophone immigrants who live in Scarborough have had to make long trips across the city in order to access services in French. Alternatively, they’ve had to use English-language services available in their region of residence.
L’an passé, le gouvernement de l’Ontario annonçait sa toute première stratégie d’immigration. Ayant inclus systématiquement la perspective francophone depuis les phases initiales de consultation, le Ministère des Affaires civiques et de l’Immigration a proposé une stratégie qui intègre l’immigration francophone tant dans des énoncés de principe généraux que sous forme d’engagements concrets et chiffrés.
Last year, the Ontario government announced its first-ever immigration strategy. Having systematically included Francophones since the very early consultation stages, the Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration proposed a strategy that integrates Francophone immigration by way of both general principles as well as specific, quantified measures.
Ainsi, le gouvernement ontarien déclarait sa volonté ferme de faire en sorte que l’immigration bénéficie à toutes les communautés de la province, y compris les francophones, ainsi que son intention de servir de mécanismes tel le Programme de candidats des provinces, entre autres, et d’atteindre un 5 % annuel d’immigrants francophones sur le total d’immigrants s’établissant dans la province.
Thus the Ontario government declared its strong will to ensure the immigration strategy is beneficial to all communities in the province, including Franco-Ontarians, as well as its intention to use mechanisms such as the Provincial Nominee Program, among other means, and to attain 5 % Francophone immigrants within its annual target levels.
2013 a vu le gouvernement de l’Ontario appuyer un nombre accru d’initiatives de service d’établissement et intégration à l’intention des immigrants francophones. Notre projet de point de services à Scarborough en est une et, de la sorte, La Passerelle-I.D.É. se réjouit de pouvoir contribuer davantage aux objectifs d’intégration et de développement économique dans la stratégie ontarienne, non seulement pour le bénéfice des immigrants francophones mais pour l’Ontario français et pour la l’Ontario tout court.
In 2013, the Ontario government supported an increased number of settlement and integration services initiatives for Francophone immigrants. Our Scarborough services location is one of them and, through it, La Passerelle-I.D.É. is glad to be able to contribute further to the integration and economic development objectives in the Ontarian strategy, for the benefit not only of Francophone immigrants but that of Francophone Ontario and the whole of Ontario as well.
J’aimerais saluer notre partenariat avec Catholic Crosscultural Services autour de cette initiative. Le pont entre les organismes francophones et anglophones assure que les immigrants francophones puissent avoir accès à une participation pleine non seulement aux diverses sphères de la vie francophone, mais aussi à celles de la vie ontarienne dans son ensemble. D’où le fait que La Passerelle-I.D.É. ait voulu aussi se joindre au Partenariat local d’immigration du Secteur est de Toronto. C’est dans l’échange d’informations et de ressources, dans la complémentarité et la coordination des services des uns et des autres que se joue la vraie intégration des immigrants que nous desservons.
I would like to underscore our partnership with Catholic Crosscultural Services around this initiative. Building bridges between Francophone and Anglophone organizations help Francophone immigrants access full participation not only in the various spheres of Francophone society, but also to all aspects of life in Ontario as a whole. That is also why La Passerelle-I.D.É. is joining the Toronto East Quadrant Local Immigration Partnership. Information and resources exchange as well as coordination of services are the way towards a better integration of the immigrants we serve.
En termes de visibilité de ces nouveaux services en français pour les immigrants francophones, j’aimerais souligner le fait que de grandes affiches seront bientôt stratégiquement placées dans 3 stations du TTC : Victoria Park, Warden et Kennedy. Ces stations sont des lieux de passage fréquent pour la population à qui nos services sont dévoués.
In terms of visibility of our new French-language services for Francophone immigrants, I would like to highlight the fact that large posters will soon be strategically placed in three subway stations: Victoria Park, Warden and Kennedy. Such stations are frequently used by the population to whom our services are dedicated.
J’aimerais remercier Catholic Crosscultural Services pour ce partenariat prometteur. C’est le début d’une collaboration que nous espérons continuera à grandir.
I would like to thank Catholic Crosscultural Services for this promising partnership. It’s the beginning of a collaboration that we hope will continue to grow.
Nous aimerions remercier surtout le Gouvernement de l’Ontario d’avoir financé ce point de services qui saura répondre aux attentes des immigrants francophones de Scarborough.
Most of all, we would like to express our gratefulness to the Government of Ontario for having funded this services location that will respond to the aspirations of Francophone immigrants in Scarborough.
